The trouble is now days, how many companies are looking for medics? I think the days of pure medics in the PSD field are numbered, and its due to the profit line. SO you end up on a team as a shooter, but with all the quals (that the coy will use and demand, but wont pay for, but again knock on your door for a cough and cold) So you are in affect a shooter so they can fill a seat and a medic for free. I would not put a civvy EMT or paramedic without any PMC or military experience into a medic slot as what they see and deal with on a big white taxi is alot different from remote or HE medicine, and Ive seen many try and give it the "Im a paramedic!!" and then fall apart when it comes to primary care and spending alot of time taking pics and talking to reach back. Now if that Para or Techy has military experience as a medic or remote experience, plus is PSD expereinced or CP qualed they he becomes a rare commodity and would do a good job. But lets face it nowadays, how much medicine is there and how far are you routinely from a CSH? Ok when out and about maybe, but for primary care then the yanks will throw brufen down your throat aslong as you are badged. Trauma, well even an A&E consultant would be limited out in the boonies with incoming and the principle eating the rear footwell carpets. When I train guys the priority there is principle and to get out of dodge with a CAT in one hand and comms in the other, and your long between your legs being operator by your anal sphincter, or TL whichever your local callsign is called lol I think the industry is changing/ has changed, and whilst I will defend the quals and experience needed for a true career CP Medic / Remote Medic. PSD work?.....well lets just say Im looking for work as a shooter as there is more life in it - pardon the pun. I think each team needs a medic, but if I owned a coy then Id prefer a shooter. It isnt about morals, common sense, duty of care or good drills.....its about the $$$$$ or the £££££££ .
